Can anyone confirm If the new single switch I have described will work in this set up? Does it have enough connections?

What he has described with FOUR terminals does not describe the replacement single switch either.

Hold on mate I'll post a pic of single switch and immersion

 your switch is OK

Com = L1

1 = L2

2 = L3

the one slot SP is an empty position used for double pole switches.

The black and grey of your three core go into switch terminals 1 & 2..

the brown of the three core goes into COM.

You're an absolute legend mate! Will try this tomorrow soon as I'm home from work! Can't thank you enough for that. Been getting quotes of £80 plus to do that.

Btw just one other thing, when I tried to connect it the led's were flashing outside, I'm assuming it's cos I made a coont of it and not anything to do with timer?

And the timer had working led display, nothing showing on it now but I think that happens initially when power is connected, to charge internal

back up battery...

That just annoys me. It's about an hours work for a sparky AT THE MOST so anyone who charges £80 for that is ripping you off (unless you live in Central London) and giving the rest of us a bad name as rip off merchants.

I thought that mate. I know it's a straight forward job pretty much if you know what goes where so wanted to do it myself

Dave, I disagree totally with your rip,off comment, just because you charge peanuts because you have other incomes to support you, does not mean that others do also, an hour on site may well mean a total of perhaps 3 hours by the time the site is attended to survey, quoted, materials identified, sourced, procured & supplied.

If I had to make 2 visits to that then 2 visits would be charged, I don't run a charity, so IMHO £80 is cheap.

I don't rip people off, I charge for work according to my overheads and the time, effort & materials required.

Stupid comments like yours from in the trade are simply that, stupid.

You have no idea about the details of the job, nor the details of the overheads of the company doing the work.

If you had to walk half an hour from your van to the job to do it, would you still be saying that £80 was too much?

You would be advised not to comment on the costs of jobs & the charges of others unless you know all of the details.

As the OP has a location of Scotland could travel time be a key factor? There a big difference between travelling 1 miles in Stirling or from Inverness to Oban, or having to park in a pay car park in Edinburgh and walk!

Dave, I have great respect for you BUT you live in the wilds of Scotland where things are very different, and I suspect you don't have a big mortgage to pay, nor kids to support, so please don't damage the trade by making such sweeping statements...

I charge £50 for the first hour, and that's in Surrey. Most people say its reasonable, yet some think its a rip off.... travel times around here, in peak hours can easily add up - so it normally eats into my time and I don't charge to go and see the client to scope a job either.

So it didn't go to plan lol. Labelled all the wires before I took off old switch. All connected up and the hall light switch makes the outside lights flash, and timer does nothing. Could scream

At least you can put it back as it was then.

As Roys asked, what is your approximate location?

Perhaps its time to admit that this is outside the scope of your knowledge and online advice isn't getting you anywhere.

There may be other factors involved here that you are unaware of so it might be time to call in a professional to sort it out for you.

You know it makes sense!

When you say the LED's flash....

1/ Do you actually mean when they are switched off they flicker or glow dimly when other lights are switched on..

or when they are switched on they do not stay on constant light, they keep flashing OFF & ON?

2a/ Have you proved that the LEDs do actually work correctly off a manual switch?

2b/ If the timer is out of circuit and you connect the LED switched live to the permanent live with a screw connector do they work as they should?

3/ do the hall lights and switches work correctly?

If 2b & 3 are NO then you didn't label stuff correctly and/or didn't reconnect t it correctly...

:popcorn

Yeah because he thinks that charging any more is ripping someone off!
Nonsense.

Going to somewhere close, doing less than an hours work, and charging them £80 for it is a rip off.  On the occasions when I have to travel a distance to a job I tell the customer what my travel expenses and time charge will be just to get me there before I start work. I don't go miles for nothing.

If he is in Lanark, that's a populated area, so he should be able to find an electrician within 10 miles and I would expect the cost per hour to be a bit more than mine but not a lot more.
