Surge Protection

Hopefully an easy answer to this. Recently I'm being asked more and more to provide spurred sockets for flatscreen tvs on walls, (hidden behind). These tvs are worth a few quid and I've been wondering if there were a way to provide surge protection? Could put a plug in behind but that seems to be a bit of a hash to me, so I've been wondering if there is single socket outlet or fused spur type thing for this?

Just what the Doctor ordered if you can pick them as singles as then I can use a dual box for the aerial as well.

Just a quick question about this, are there any surge protectors that can be built into the CU like they have in Canada/US?

Bear in mind the MK surge sockets have additional depth as well as requiring a deeper back box.

Maybe not quite the answer then as there will only be limited clearance

and on further thought the filters dont last forever and i believe they indicate then they are no longer working, but you wont see that as they will be behind TV, so your best bet may be install a unit at the CU.

Yes there are surge protectors that can be built into CUs & DBs. These are French; I'm not sure if they are available in the UK:

This subject came up with a client who has a property in Frnce, hence the French connection.

Surge & lightning protection was a hot topic when I was working in Africa.

[edit] We often fitted DIN rail protectors in the CU / DB which were grounded to a local spike, spikes, or a mat. Further protection was by local protectors at the socket outlets themselves - pretty much the same as the MK sockets already noted in this thread.
