Try to get into the trade any advice welcome

hi,

my names ben i'm 25 , i'm currently in engineering but want to change career i'd previously done (C&G:6958 : Electrical/electronic servicing) but wanted to go more to the installations ,

i'm due to finish my 2330 Level 2 next month (paid for out my own pocket)

i've been trying to find work contacting people all get is rejections, i can't progress to Level 3 as the deadline is july and really need NVQ which is December but as i have no job in the field is a no no,no one seems to want to give me chance?i'm more than willing to work hard this week at work i will have worked nearly 50hrs,

is there another way to make me more apealing? e.g doing 17th ed, C&G2391 and go Part P would this allow me to do domestic work alone? also would it be worth it? or even getting PAT test cert and try and do that in the meantime? just to get in the field as it were,

You have asked some very good questions, at this time regardless of newspaper scam adverts electricians are out of work and there is definately no shortage of skills. As with any recession the building trade is the first to see this trend first hand.

I would agree with manator but I would not give up, try everyone around you ,and never give up. Best thing is to stay in contact with those you have worked with, word of mouth is far better a endorsement than an uknown quantity.

sorry I cannot offer any magic solutions to getting into any work environment.. be it electrical or anything else...

You sound as though you are doing all the right things..

and I say well done keep it up..:ApplaudGuinness

Unfortunately we are at a very difficult financial economic state...

Many businesses will be awaiting the new governments Budget before assessing their own individual states...

In ALL businesses the biggest outgoing costs are employee wages!..

businesses will only take on new staff if they are confident they can support them..

Or if there is significant government support and incentives to take on new staff...

IMHO we are in a bit of a hold-on, wait-and-see how the economy develops situation..

During these sort of times new jobs are often more down to WHO you know rather than WHAT you know...

Sorry I cannot be more positive... but for those of us who are older..

we can remember previous recessions and job cutting times of significant unemployment.

The positive point is bad times don't go on forever..

at some stage economy will pick up....

and..

Existing electricians get older as time goes on.....

at some stage they DO stop working..

and natural wastage means new blood HAS to come into the trade...

Also we as a population are living older..

so there are more people living on our island who will need electrical work done that they cannot do themselves..

So

bottom line just stick with it..

keep trying... eventually a door will open.
