Someone on here said they got the homeowner to confirm it was heating up (and therefore working) before the floor was fitted. If it's damaged when the floor is laid you can't get the blame!
That was me , homeowner or builder . I have laid the mats then get the builder marching over it for two days before he decides to screed the floor.

Also be aware that there are two sorts of floor heating , the one that is popular today is low wattage, only to take the chill off tiles etc. n o good for heating a room, some customers think it will !!!

The other sort is the main heating for that room or house/flat and is designed as a primary heating installation, albeit expensive to run.

Deke

Apart from the normal wire or mat systems I have installed a 24v carbon film one.. with a great big wodging transformer hidden away (about the size of a large car battery)

The only good thing about it was that as the sensor is 5v you could put it in the bathroom!! (connected by cat5)

SOME of the mats, if used in bathroom, need a "chicken wire" earthed mesh laid above them, before the flooring is laid......
Isn;t that just the ones that have no metallic sheath? I don't think I've ever fitted any underfloor heating without a metallic sheathed element.

The one I mentioned in #22 didn't have an earthed sheath,,,,,

but it was SELV (24v)!!!!!

All of the others that I've fitted have though
