If the fuel has dumped into the cylinders, then it could have hydraulic locked, which is like a seizure, but is simply the incompressibility of the fuel above the piston, this will seep away naturally as a static piston is not a perfect seal in the bore.

It could simply be a single injector failed open dumping the fuel into a single cylinder hence the amount of fuel lost?

Is it a common rail engine?

yes, think it is.

Had a play on the diagnostic machine today. Got a permanent ecu configuration error and the immobiliser has decided to reject all the keys.

No closer to a solution yet....getting expensive now.

OK, with what you have just posted, I think you have a genuine ECU fault, rare as hens teeth when you consider how many there are out there!

You may well need another ECU, immobiliser and a recoding of keys etc.

Obviously, I'm here, you're there, & I'm guessing the van is somewhere else, so I can only offer opinion based on my previous experience, qualifications and training based on the info in the thread.

I have done a LOT of auto electrics over the years and most of my business is fault finding, I even have auto electrician on my JIB card!

However, I have not seen or tested the van, so I may be a country mile off with the diagnosis! ;)

I think that you are probably right. The immobiliser my clear with the battery disconnected for a bit.

I suppose my quandary is a recon ecu is £100+ plus transponder, cost to configure etc and I still don't know if it caused the original fault. I can't see how a faulty ecu could of caused the engine to seize in the way that it did.

it definitely wouldn't turn when it first stopped...

There comes a time when you need to book it in TBH  but don't forget that the small garages now have access to main dealer diagnostic software , so you needn't pay Main dealer prices.

Or try a mobile auto sparks .

My van started to cut out,  dead , without warning , middle of a main road turning right in front of oncoming traffic ....Dunk!!! ... just died on me ...never knew when it happen.

Working at a garage , the guy there couldn't solve it .  Was on about the ECU  but I don't think there is one TBH .

Got the mobile guy out ...no better.

Booked it in at another garage I work for ..no good .

Then another garage I do bits for ...and they solved it .

None of this helps you but it turned out to be my fault .        I replaced the diesel filter , pasted grease around the gasket... but too much!!   Cold engine no problem .........engine warms up , grease melts and admits air into the fuel system ....engine cuts out ..........  wait 15 mins engine starts no problem.

Still.......  3 mechanics didn't suss it out .
