Just having a chat with someone and this question came up...

If you terminated SWA into an adaptable box externally could you rely on the SWA core bedding as a sheath to pass through a wall into the back of a CU??

Not that I'd do it, but thinking about it the bedding is made of PVC the same as T&E sheath, but it is much more brittle and can easily tear..

Obviously you'd earth the SWA armour with a separate conductor..

Opinions please....

I would agree, however any cable going through any cavity I would always use a bit of suitable conduit. If its an internal wall then I do not use conduit unless I feel there is a risk of damage.

I agree with Manator and always run a bit of 20mm plastic conduit through the wall and couple it to the back of the external box, I tend to use a galv terminal end box with a gasket, lid and some silicone.
