Yeah definitely and a consumer unit upgrade will just be advised to get done at some point to stay up to date.

Aha well you are WRONG! i used one today! Admittedly my application was wrong as I used it ( brace yourself, big boy pants on ) for a double 13A socket in a FACTORY. Yes I know I am not ( yet) a retired engineer , and I didn't once get asked to teach ( because I DID teach) but I did it. No police sirens

So , one down and about 700 still to go! Anybody need any new Wylex HB 30 ? No? ******
 
Well that’s just gone and devalued it, now it’ll be a used one for sale, you know you’re gonna have to take it out as soon as they catch up with you!

FYI: Compact RCBO Hager ADA & Eaton EAD range will fit so long as the busbar tab is modified.
 
Are you advocating mix and match fuseboards ?
I have and do mix and match where it is safe to do so (crowbar avoidance). Why ? To get power back on.
I sign a MEIWC detailing a departure "not following manufacturers instructions"(try finding those after 30 years !! or "alternative manufacturer device used"
Not all customers can afford a new board and manufacturers should not dictate to the person on the tools what to do if they decide not to make backwards compatible models of OCPD's. Are they not all tested to a BSEN standard? I tend to use reasonably decent brands (although we all know where quality is heading!).
I am not here to ruffle feathers... just to apply a fast reasonable safe solution needed in an emergency.
 
I think you need to address your work practices, whether a client can afford something or other is totally irrelevant.

better that than shoving another brand in - that said I wish PV and EV installers upped their game

My work practices are fine. In the case of domestic clients they own their installation, least we forget, regardless of the latest non-statutory regulations.

I do that too...its okay. Sometimes not all things are available so I turn to whatever I have or can get at the time...so long as it fits well and of reasonable or better quality.

They clearly are not if you are fitting non compatible parts. People seem to think that the recent inclusion of this to BS7671 indicates a recent requirement, it is not. Manufacturers have always stated these requirements. Domestic clients owning their installation has no relevance.
 
Manufacturers are welcome to state and promote their own products. I am happy to use alternatives if safe to do so. Not sure how third party car parts are relevant. How have you assessed alternative protective devices are safe, what procedures are you undertaking for this.

there are countless boards around the country with mix and match components - have yet to see one fail

not that means it’s ok

and the clarity in the 18th, was no doubt insisted on by the OEMs who want to see more products to make profit AND it helps justify more regs changes
