Had the local scout hall owner call this morning..

"One of the parents who is an electrician said I have to by law have the 12 twin strip lights in the hall changed"

Oh yes & why is that.

"Some statutory regulations have changed & because they contain mercury, they are a hazzard if the tubes break"

New one on me, out of interest what has he said you need?

"either LED strips or a cheaper option T5 tubes & fittings"

Tell him to come back with a quote (should be interesting) & a copy of the new regulation requiring the change. But dont change anything it's not required.

That'll be interesting on Wednesday eveningROTFWL

i hope you told him that the T5 tubes also contain mercury, just as the existing ones do...

AIUI florry tubes do contain mercury and if broken they then constitute hazardous waste and (in a commercial environment) must be treated as such.

There is no law requiring old ones to be changed to new ones though. Good on yer.

I look after our local Scout hall (both my lads go there) and help them as much as poss to keep costs down. Only this week they had a fire in a 3036 board controlling the heating. Most firms would have charged for a new board, but as this was metal clad I simply replaced the inards with good condition 2nd hand.

Our local Scouts needed a handwash heater fitted.

To serve our local community I've my offered my services for free.

Fitting a handwash heater has now become fitting a handwash heater, hand dryer, removing and re-sitiing a space heater, fitting two more space heaters and some exterior lighting.

These scouts better help me cross the road when I'm elderly.
